The Cylinder Lifter for Welding and Fabrication Shops

In a busy fabrication shop, the gas always seems to run out halfway through a job. The Cylinder Lifter lets one person swap in a full argon or mixed-gas cylinder safely, without the bear hug and without waiting for someone to help.

The cylinder change nobody looks forward to

MIG and TIG sets get through shielding gas fast, so cylinders are changed all the time. A full large cylinder can weigh 80 kg or more and has nothing to hold on to. Getting it off the rack, across the shop floor and up onto the welder's cylinder carrier is either a two-person job or a one-person risk: strained backs, shoulders and elbows, and cylinders that slip and land on feet or damage their valves.

How it works on your shop floor

  1. 1Strap it. Fasten the cylinder to the frame with the 50 mm ratchet strap.
  2. 2Raise it. Use the pivot to lift it off the floor. The frame takes the load, and only about 14 kg reaches the handle.
  3. 3Wheel it. Push it across the shop on 250 mm puncture-proof wheels that won't go flat on swarf or broken concrete.
  4. 4Place it. Set it onto the welder's cylinder carrier, or any platform up to 250 mm high, then chain it in place as usual.

Why it suits a fabrication shop

  • One person, one tool. It moves the cylinder and lifts it, so nobody has to stop work to lend a hand.
  • Nothing to charge or service. There's no motor, battery or hydraulics, so it's ready whenever the gas runs out.
  • Takes the big cylinders. Up to 100 kg and around 254 mm in diameter.
  • Built for the workshop. A powder-coated steel frame and an anti-slip foot grip. At 26 kg and 1400 × 500 × 470 mm, it parks neatly beside the gas store.
  • Made in the UK. CE and UKCA marked, with a 12-month warranty.

Part of your manual handling plan

Changing cylinders is a manual handling task, so it belongs in your risk assessment. The Cylinder Lifter gives you a practical way to take the hand lift out of it: an ergonomic assessment using the MAC tool and the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) concluded that it significantly reduces the risks of changing cylinders by hand.
