The Cylinder Lifter
What is the Cylinder Lifter?
A manually operated trolley for moving heavy gas cylinders and loading them onto welding sets, cylinder carts and platforms. You strap the cylinder to the frame, raise it with the pivot, wheel it to where it's needed and set it down, all without lifting it by hand.
Which cylinders will it take?
Cylinders weighing up to 100 kg, its safe working load (SWL), and around 254 mm in diameter. That includes the large argon and argon-mix cylinders found in most welding shops.
How high can it place a cylinder?
Onto a platform up to 250 mm high, such as the cylinder carrier on a welding machine or a cylinder cart. It isn't a hoist or crane, so it won't lift a cylinder onto a vehicle or a raised deck.
How much effort does it take?
Very little. The frame and pivot carry the load, and only about 14 kg of it reaches the handle, so one person can change a cylinder without help.
Does it need charging or a power supply?
No. It's fully mechanical, with no motor or battery, so it's ready whenever you need it.
How big and heavy is it?
It measures 1400 × 500 × 470 mm and weighs 26 kg. The frame is powder-coated steel, and the 250 mm puncture-proof wheels can't go flat on rough floors.
Safety and compliance
Is it CE and UKCA marked?
Yes. It has a UK Declaration of Conformity under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and an EC Declaration of Conformity under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, and it's designed to EN ISO 12100. Both declarations and the instructions for use are on our technical and compliance documents page.
Has it been tested?
Yes, at Lloyds British and Caparo Innovation Centre. An ergonomic assessment using the MAC tool and the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) also concluded that it significantly reduces the risks of changing cylinders by hand.
Will it help with our manual handling risk assessment?
It takes the hand lift out of one of the most common manual handling jobs in a workshop. You'll still need to cover cylinder handling in your own risk assessment and show staff how to use the Lifter safely, following the instructions for use.
Where is it made?
In the UK. Cylinder Lifter Ltd is based in Cheltenham, and the design is patented.
